CPR CLASSES, TRAINING & CERTIFICATION IN COLUMBUS, OH

CPR Classes in Columbus: What to Expect on the Day of Your Class

Are you thinking about taking CPR classes in Columbus? If you’ve never taken a CPR course in your life, you might be wondering exactly what the class will entail. Typically, CPR classes consist of a video or instructor lecture and hands-on skills practice. All students are provided with a print or digital handbook/manual that they can keep. You can opt to take an on-site class or take a class at a local hospital, community center, community college, or training facility.

If you choose to take an on-site class and have the instructor come to you, make sure the room where the class will be taught has enough space to accommodate the students and manikins. For every three students, there should be an open space of about 4×4 feet available. A TV/DVD player will also be required for the course, but if you don’t have this equipment, the trainer will most likely provide it to you. For bigger classes, the use of a projector is recommended so that everyone can see the video lectures easily. Other class materials, such as handbooks, manikins, and AEDs, will be provided by the trainer.

How to Prepare for Your Class

CPR classes in Columbus generally take around one to four hours to complete, dependent on the exact course selection. Some classes have a test at the end. You may want to bring a pen and paper so you can take notes throughout the class.

You will be expected to kneel on the ground to practice performing chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on a manikin, so be sure to dress appropriately. Most course participants find that sweatpants are the most comfortable clothing option. Women are recommended to avoid wearing skirts because they make it more difficult to complete the hands-on component of the class.

It’s a good idea to learn as much as you can about CPR by conducting online research, so you’re better prepared on the day of class. The American Heart Association website is a great place to start because it features tons of helpful information about heart disease, CPR, First Aid, and AED use and will get you up to speed. The better informed you are, the more you’ll get out of the class.

Ask Lots of Questions

Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you don’t understand something. Taking CPR classes in Columbus is pointless unless you actually learn CPR and feel confident in your ability to perform the procedure in an emergency. Pay close attention in class and ask the instructor for clarification and feedback whenever necessary; you never know when the knowledge will come in handy!

Reschedule Your Class in Advance

If you aren’t able to attend your scheduled class, be sure to contact the trainer and let her know as far in advance as possible because otherwise, your class deposit may become void. By providing advance notice, you’ll be able to secure your deposit and reschedule your class at a later date.
